Real Stories, Real Strength

For years, my mom, Lynn, and I thought we were doing just fine. We were healthy, active enough, and didn’t feel like we were missing anything. It wasn’t until my sister—who has always been fit—referred us to Independence In Motion that we realized just how much more we could be capable of.

We’ve been training together for just over a year now, and it’s become such an important part of our routine—not just for our health, but for our relationship. Exercising side by side has given us an opportunity to spend quality time together while keeping each other accountable. There’s something really special about pushing each other, growing stronger together, and seeing firsthand how much we’re both improving.

And the difference is huge. We’ve been told all our lives that as we get older, we should slow down, take it easy, and avoid anything too strenuous. But we’re realizing now that’s completely backward. The truth is, if you stop challenging your body, you lose what you have. Strength isn’t just for the young—it’s for everyone, and it’s never too late to build more of it.

Since starting this program, we’ve learned that the barbell isn’t just for athletes—it’s a tool for independence. Lifting heavy, moving well, and challenging ourselves has shown us that we still have so much potential to unlock. And it’s not just about the gym—it’s about real-life strength.

My mom loves to garden, and now she moves through it so much more easily. Carrying bags of soil, pulling weeds, bending, lifting—things that used to be tiring or difficult are now effortless.

If you think you’re ‘doing fine,’ you might be surprised—because we sure were. This program has completely changed how we see aging, and I can’t recommend it enough. If you have the chance to train with your parent, do it. You’ll be stronger for it-in more ways than one.”

Our Approach to Real Health

Independence in Motion

A six-week strength and vitality program designed to help you (or your loved ones) stay strong, mobile, and independent for life. Perfect for seniors — and the families who care about them.

This program blends simple, functional workouts with holistic health principles for long-term results that actually matter.

Why Functional Strength Matters

Strength is freedom. From getting off the floor, climbing stairs, and gardening pain-free — to simply carrying your groceries with confidence, strength training helps you stay independent.

This isn’t about six-packs or gym culture. It’s about living life on your terms, at every age.

Natural Health Philosophy

We don’t believe health comes from pills or processed powders.

Our programs are grounded in nutrient-dense, regenerative food, daily movement, sunlight, and real-life habits that support the whole body.

Because true wellness starts with nature — and the way we nourish ourselves matters.

Why We Do This Work

Hi, We're Hoof & Beak Health

We’re Adam and Chelsey — a husband-and-wife team passionate about helping people reclaim their health naturally. At Hoof & Beak Health, we blend regenerative living, functional movement, and whole-food nutrition to support true, lasting wellness.

Our journey began with a shared love for fitness and holistic health, but it deepened when we became parents. We quickly realized how deeply food quality, movement, and nature shape not just individual health — but the health of entire families and ecosystems. That realization fueled everything we do.

Adam’s background is rooted in movement and coaching. After studying kinesiology at the University of Waterloo, he launched CrossFit Closer in 2012 to help people build real-world strength and vitality. His approach focuses on functional, scalable movement that supports everyday life — from carrying groceries to climbing stairs or playing with your grandkids.

Chelsey’s path has always been grounded in root-cause healing. As a naturopathic doctor, she’s helped hundreds of people cut through the noise of modern health advice and get back to the fundamentals: nutrient-dense food, movement, sunlight, and connection to the land. Since 2013, she’s combined evidence-based medicine with ancestral wisdom to help people restore balance and thrive.

Together, we created Hoof & Beak Health to guide others toward a more natural, resilient way of living. Whether you’re here to build strength, raise healthier kids, support aging parents, or simply reconnect with real food and real movement — we’re here to help.

This isn’t quick-fix wellness. This is practical, regenerative, root-cause health — designed to help you thrive at any stage of life.
